In this day and age, convenience has leveled up a notch with the presence of different apps and virtual assistants on our gadgets that make everyday living sweat-free. People nowadays seem like they cannot live without their phones because everything can be done by simply moving our fingers.
But technology’s amenity did not stop at the tip of our fingertips when Google introduced its brand of smart speakers, the Google Home, on May 2016.
If you think you do not need Google Home in your life, you might rethink your choices as you read on these Google Home hacks:
- Make calls
Calling someone is not the most popular task people ask Google Home but it is one of the most convenient things it can do for you. If your hands are full and you suddenly remember that you need to make a call, it can ring a specific person or number.
Just take note that you are making a call over the internet so the person on the other end must have added your Google IP number to their contacts or your Home’s Caller ID is set for them to know it’s you calling.
- Play just about anything
Videos? Movies? Music? You name it and Google Home can play it. Built-in music apps allow Google to stream any music you feel like jamming to, or show the movies you want for your movie night. If you want music from a certain artist or genre, then just tell Google what to do. Same goes for playing Videos from Youtube, or Movies and Series from Netflix. Just make sure that the needed devices are paired up to your Google Home, including the Google Chromecast.
- Take notes
Having so much to do can make us forget things we need to remember. So if you want to remember what the person on the other end of the line asked you to bring to the party, you can ditch the post-it notes and pen, and just tell Google to remember them for you. Or if you are the type to easily forget where you put your umbrella or keys, tell Google to remember where you will put it just before you let go of it.
- Control your smart home
Having smart devices can be very convenient when you have your Google Home. A lot of compatible products are available in the market from brands like Samsung, LG, GE, and many more. Connecting Google Home to your smart devices and appliances will allow you to turn them on and run them with a request from google. Just say, “Hey Google, brew my coffee!” and your place will be filled with that good coffee aroma in a little while.
- Find what you need
If you need to find a restaurant for your first date or are looking for a florist for a bouquet for you anniversary, Google Home is your best friend. Just ask Google what you need and it will show relevant results within your area.
Aside from finding help, Google Home can find your phone misplaced in your house. Just tell Google to find your phone, and it can ring it up for you.
- Keep track of appointments
Having a written schedule may help in ensuring you make it to all your appointments, but nothing is more convenient than having an assistant you can ask about it. If you connect all your calendars to Google Home, you can easily ask what your schedule for today is or what your next appointment will be.
And when something comes up that you need to attend to? Just simply tell it, “Add my nephew, Yohann’s birthday on Saturday at 10 a.m. to my calendar,” and there you have it.
- Make a shopping list
While cleaning your house or preparing food in the kitchen, you might notice that some supplies are running out or are already out of stock. Do not fret, as you go on with your task, you can simply tell Google to add that almost finished fruit-scented air freshener you like or that holy grail ingredient you add to almost any meal for added taste.
- Get real time updates
From the traffic and weather to news all around the world, Google Home can provide you with the information upon your request.
Getting traffic updates is not limited to updating you of the traffic situation, but also of your estimated time of arrival or even directions. Weather updates for when you drive home at night or weather forecasts for your weekend destination also has Google Home covered. If you prefer a certain news provider for your current news, just set it on the Google Home app, and you can get your news from your favorite source.
All these hacks and that is not even all that Google Home can do for you.
